Fallen Heros: Our War Veterans

On November 11th of each year WE REMEMBER.

During World War I many individuals answered the call to serve their country. This included natives of our lands as well as European settlers. Similarly, in WW2 , Korean, Vietnam, and in other recent wars, our dedicated family members, friends and strangers have answered the call.

They served side by side with fellow solders in each of merchant, navy and army- all willing to give their lives for the cause. A lot of them were not old enough. It was a minor stumbling block and so they lied about their age in order to enlist. Each and everyone of them played an important role as a link in a very strong chain. Each relying on the other, each complementing the other. Some returned and some did not.

Those of who care and those of us who respect the sacrifices made honour the each year, pay tribute by placing a wreath in memory of those lost during Remembrance day celebrations. Others have their own personal and private way of remembering and honouring them.

Do you know of any family members or relatives that have served? If you do, have you visited them or visited their grave site? Do you have pictures of them? Have you told your children about them?

Four of my great uncles enlisted in WW1 and two returned. Until this past year, I was unaware of their sacrifice. One of them who returned -is remembered each year on remembrance day, the others have never been honoured in this way. Now you know why I feel it necessary to do this. I do it out of respect. Great Uncle Victor Joseph Benoit and Great Uncle Joseph H. Benoit, left a small french speaking Mi'kmaq village and never returned. They have no descendants. Their memory can only be kept alive by relatives. This I do with pride.

This page will grow to include info and photos of more "Gone but not forgot War Veterans".

This page is dedicated to all those - who returned and especially those who did not.
